Software Download

Required Hardware

All of the following are required to run the software for Play the Knave.  If you don't have the required equipment, you can arrange to borrow one of our Knave Kits. See our Classrooms page for details.
Picture
PC with Windows 8 or 10
You need a powerful computer, with a good graphics card. Most "gaming computers" will work. For more details on the recommended specs for the PC, consult our installation guide below.
Picture
Kinect v2 motion sensor
This is the camera/sensor for the Xbox One (e.g. ASIN#B00YT168WA). Microsoft has stopped manufacturing these, but you can find them through various distributors online. Make sure you get the v2, not the v1--it won't work.
Picture
Kinect adapter
This connects your Kinect to your PC (e.g. ASIN# B07LH1V4XP). Microsoft has stopped manufacturing these adapters, but all non-Microsoft brands are compatible. You can find them through online distributors.
Picture
TV or screen/projector
Screen size: the bigger, the better! Your TV or projector needs to have an HDMI port. If you only have a VGA input, you'll need to use an HDMI to VGA adapter.

Useful Manuals and Guides

Installation Guide
We highly recommend that you download the Installation Guide before downloading our software to ensure that your software installation and gameplay experience go smoothly.
Player Manual
The Player Manual includes the Installation Guide along with detailed instructions on different options for gameplay and how to navigate the game's menu system. It also offers tips for how to get the most out of your gameplay and helpful troubleshooting advice if you run into problems.
Scriptmaker Manual
If you are planning to use our Mekanimator Scriptmaker online tool to create your own scripts for uploading into the game, the Scriptmaker Manual will walk you through the steps of writing, editing, testing, and saving scripts. It also offers helpful troubleshooting advice if you run into problems.
